uses of I and Me

What are subject and predicate or object?

Before we learn the uses of I and me, we must understand what are subject and object or predicate.

Where to Use ‘I’ and ‘Me’?

The words “I” and “me” both refer to yourself and it is easy to understand that where to use what.

Let’s understand in easy way!

To choose between “I” and “me” correctly, start by simplifying the sentence by removing any other subjects or clauses until only the “I” or “me” remains with the verb.

For example, if the sentence is “Dani and I went to the Park,” remove “Dani and.” You can then see,

“I went to the Park.” makes more sense than “Me went to the Park.

If you still find it difficult, just try to complete the sentence while understanding it. see the examples below:

  1. The question was difficult for Dani and me. (…was difficult for me. Not for I)
  2. Dani and I went for a coffee. (I went for the coffee, not me went)
  3. She asked if she could study with Dani and me. (…Study with me, not with I)
  4. Dani and I were very excited for the party. (I was very ecxited. Not me was excited)

Suppose there is only one person, then the sentences are :

  • I like black color.
  • She gives me black pens.
  • He sings for me.
  • I pay for his singing.
  • I buy chocolates.
  • She eats with me.
  • Give these mangoes to me
  • I like to eat mangoes.

Use of ‘My’ and ‘Mine’

‘My’ is to be used before a noun. For example, “My friend”

‘Mine’ is to be used at the end of the sentence. For example, “A friend of mine”

OR to replace my+noun.

For example, “My+house” or “Your house is new but mine is old.”

In simple words,

Use ‘my’ before the word, and use ‘mine’ after the word. Remember ‘my’ is always followed by noun where as mine replaces the noun.

This is my book.

These books are mine.

Use of ‘Myself’

Myself’ is used when you are doing something yourself. No one else can do anything to yourself.

For example, “in hurry, I cut myself today” “I will go to the movie by myself.”
