What is the origin of the New Year?
New Year is a very special day which is enthusiastically celebrated around the world. This occasion fills everyone’s heart with cheer, joy, and happiness. New Year is considered to be a worldwide celebration of happiness with passion. Each and every place across the world is draped with colors of celebration. People organize the party and create memories with their dear once.
Mesopotamia (Iraq) instituted the concept of celebrating the New Year in 2000 BC and celebrated New Year around the time of the vernal equinox, in mid-March. The early Roman calendar designated March 1 as the New Year. The calendar had just ten months, beginning with March. Later, they realized and corrected the calendar according to seasons.
Meanwhile, ‘Gregorian calendar’, the most widely used calendar system today, was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in October 1582, and again some corrections happened in it, accordingly so the New Year occurred on January 1 (New Year’s Day).

Why do we celebrate the new year in January?
For the Romans, the month of January is associated with the Janus. Who had two faces which meant that he could see forwards and backward and inside and outside simultaneously without turning around. Janus held a staff in his right hand, in order to guide travelers along the correct route, and a key in his left to open gates. Represent change and new beginnings. Janus was famously associated with the transition between peace and war.
As Janus was the god of beginnings and transitions, thence also of gates, doors, doorways, endings and time and he had two-faced he could see the future and the past. The Romans dedicated the month of January to Janus and named January to the first month of the year.

What are the Ways to Celebrate the New Year?

Everybody has a different style of celebration and to express their happiness. it is a special day – a day to start the new beginnings.
New Year’s Eve is celebrated at evening social gatherings, where many people dance, throw party or light fireworks to mark the New Year.
New Year Eve is best celebrated in the company of family and friends. In some countries, people cut cakes and open champagne bottles to express their joy. They greet each other with hugs and kisses at midnight on New Year’s day. People also arrange get-together dinners and outdoor activities for enjoyment.
